Bouchard Pere and Fils - Bou Le Corton Grand Cru 1998 75cl Bottle Alcoholic Drinks Intense bouquet with aromas of fruit and spice. Rich and structured on the palate, this wine needs a bit of patience in order to reveal its raciness and great distinction. Excellent ageing potential. The unique red Grand Cru on the Cote de Beaune, the Bouchard Pere & Fils Le Corton comes from the piece of land bearing the same name as the 'Appellation' : Le Corton. On the sunniest side of the Corton mountain, this stony land, rich in clay and chalk, is blessed with all the qualities the vine needs to produce concentrated, rich, magnificently distinctive grapes. Guy de Maupassant, the great 19th century poet, contributed to spreading its fame by calling it the 'roi des bons vivants' in one of his most famous works : Bel ami. The Bouchard Pere & Fils vineyard (3,68 hectares) is situated half way up the slope and produces wines with a nose of red fruit (cherry, blackcurrant), spice and woody notes which evolve in time towards aromas of truffle, leather and moss. This is nectar which fully justifies the use of the typical Burgundy glass, very wide narrowing in at the top. Sometimes, the glass is not wide enough for the size of this wine! Powerful, with great ageing potential, its noble origins will come to the fore after 10 to 15 years. Food-wine matches: Venison, wild boar, marinated red meat, full-bodied cheeses.
