The Barossa is an ideal region for late harvest style white wines given the quality of Semillon in the region and the warm weather conditions that continue well into late vintage. Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan had the good fortune of winning a trip to visit France in 1982 at vintage time and enjoyed a rare opportunity of spending time in the vineyards at Chateau d’Yquem – unquestionably then, and still today, home to the greatest sweet white table wine in the world. Walking through the vineyards he could see the same deterioration in the grapes that he had seen in the fruit being received at our own winery back in the Barossa! What he had assumed to be common spoilage in extremely ripe Semillon in fact was Noble Rot - Botrytis Cinerea. Andrew returned armed with the confidence that what we were experiencing in our vineyards in the Barossa was identical to what he’d seen in Sauternes. He was determined to master Noble Rot and create Peter Lehmann Wines own expression of Botrytis Semillon. 25 years on from that moment of inspiration in the vineyards of Chateau d’Yquem, we are convinced our Botrytis Semillon is a Barossa classic. A beautiful bright gold colour which will deepen with bottle age. It has wonderful tropical fruits aroma with just a hint of citrus. It is a truly harmonious wine with a delicious lusciousness on the middle palate counterbalanced by tantalisingly complex acidity, the hallmark of a botrytised wine. 2008 vintage began early with a small burst of heat. This was followed by ideal vintage weather: mild to warm days and cool to cold nights. The grapes were picked on the 13th May 2008. Enjoy with creamy blue vein or washed rind cheeses. A delicious accompaniment for fruit flans, warm winter puddings & great with scrambled eggs for a luxurious brunch. Can be cellared for 20 plus years.

Peter Lehmann - Margaret Semillon 2002 75cl Bottle
Wine
Still very lively and fresh showing good citrus notes also hints of macadamia nut characters and beginnings of a light smokiness as a consequence of bottle development. Still a remarkably tight, zesty and youthful wine with a superb structure and length. Time in the bottle has deepened the lime citrus and honey dew fruit flavours which fill out the mouth while finishing clean and dry. With careful cellaring, this wine will continue to develop in the bottle for a further ten years. It is very food friendly wine and is a superb accompaniment to fuller flavoured sea food dishes, asparagus and is one of the rare wines which pairs well with fresh tomato soup! The grapes are picked early & fermented cold in stainless steel tanks. Following a 2 week fermentation period, the wine is clarified and bottled immediately before being cellared at the winery.

Peter Lehmann - Stonewell Shiraz 2004 75cl Bottle
Wine
Dense black centre with a deep garnet rim. The nose shows lashings of dark plums and chocolate with hints of mint. A wine of great dignity, its structure is superbly taut, with intense depth of fruit reined in by the firm tannins. As befits a wine made in strictly limited quantities, this is a wine for posterity and may be cellared with confidence. The ultimate Peter Lehmann expression of Barossa Shiraz, Stonewell is an internationally-acclaimed Shiraz from the finest, most concentrated fruit of each vintage. Stonewell Shiraz is marked by intense flavour, strength, opulence, a velvety finish and remarkable longevity. The story of Stonewell Shiraz began in 1987 when Peter Lehmann decided to make a special Shiraz - a wine of immense intensity and muscularity that would demand time in the barrel and bottle before release. The wine was named 'Stonewell' after the district that he believed best showed the characters admired most in Barossa Shiraz. This tradition has continued and each vintage the best Shiraz from a legacy of growers' Barossa vineyards is chosen to create Stonewell. Usually no more than a dozen small, old vineyards are selected each year, the oldest planted in 1885. The berries are small and sparse with crops typically less than 1.5 tons per acre. The pedigree of these vineyards and the knowledge that has been passed from each grape growing generation to the next assuring that Stonewell Shiraz is a wine of great longevity that can be cellared with confidence for many years to come.
