The Rattail pattern is an pattern which is now over 400 years old as it first appeared in 1604. The 'rat's tail' alluded to in the name refers to the way the spoons were originally attached to the handles. As they were unable to make spoons in one piece in the 1600's, the base was fixed to the handle with a long spine, which looks like a tail. Naturally, the Viners set of Rattail cutlery is one piece and of excllent quality which will last for many years to come.
